Team/Event Notes:
- Texas Tech will make its fourth consecutive appearance at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational this week. The Red Raiders' best finish in their previous three appearances came in 2022, a second-place finish led by now PGA superstar Ludvig Aberg, who finished tied for eighth individually.
- Texas Tech finished 12th of 15 teams in the 2024 edition of the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational. Connor Graham and Ben Gregg will be making a return trip to the event this year, as the pair both competed in last year's event. Graham finished tied for 46th (+9) while Gregg finished tied for 53rd (+10).
- The Red Raiders have played in two tournaments thus far this season. Tech debuted in the Top 25 in three different Men's College Golf preseason polls: Golf Channel (9), GCAA/Coaches (T-15), and Golfweek (19). The second edition of the GCAA/Coaches poll on Sept. 19 tabbed Texas Tech No. 19.
- The Red Raiders lost two seniors from their 2025 NCAA Championship squad, Charlie DeLong and Calum Scott, to graduation, and added transfer Adam Bresnu, as well as freshmen Simon Hovdal and Brady McHenry, to their 2025-26 squad. Returning from last season include Luke D'Alise, Graham, Gregg, Price Hill, Sean Keeling, and Tim Wiedemeyer.
- Graham returns from an offseason that included participating in The Open Championship, the Arnold Palmer Cup, and, most recently, the 50th Walker Cup, Sept. 6-7.
- Graham was also tabbed as one of 25 individuals for the Haskins Award preseason watch list.
- Gregg and Wiedemeyer also played in some high-level amateur events during the offseason, most recently at the 125th United States Amateur Championships. Both qualified for the Round of 64 match play after starting among 312 players in stroke play. Wiedemeyer advanced as far as the Round of 32.
- Texas Tech finished 10th at the 2025 NCAA Championships, its fourth Top 10 finish in the Greg Sands era and sixth in program history.
- 13 of 15 teams in the field are ranked, and 14 of the 15 are ranked or receiving votes in the Sept. 19 Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll released by the GCAA.
- The participating teams' rosters include 10 individuals ranked among the top 25 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), eight of the top nine players in the PGA TOUR University Ranking and seven 2025 Walker Cup participants.
- Schools in the field have produced nine of the past 12 Ben Hogan Award Presented by Baird winners. Included in that group is 2024 award winner Jackson Koivun of Auburn, who is scheduled to compete at next week's tournament. Koivun, a junior, is the No. 1-ranked amateur in the world and has placed 11th or better in four consecutive starts on the PGA TOUR.
- Other top-10 ranked amateurs on the rosters include Virginia's Ben James (WAGR No. 2), Oklahoma's Jase Summy (No. 4) and the Texas duo of Christiaan Maas (No.6) and Tommy Morrison (No. 9). Summy (Keller, Texas) and Morrison (Dallas) are local products.
- This is the eighth time that the tournament will be held at Colonial Country Club. Originally called the Nike Collegiate Invitational, Colonial hosted the event in 2014, 2016 and 2018 while alternating with Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore. The tournament moved to Fort Worth full-time in 2020 and was played as the Colonial Collegiate Invitational in 2020 and 2021. In 2022, the tournament was renamed the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational. The 2022 and 2024 editions were held at Colonial, while the 2023 event took place at Shady Oaks Country Club during Colonial's course renovation.
- Last year, Oklahoma won the team title with a 54-hole score of 830 (-10). North Carolina's David Ford, who later was a finalist for the 2025 Ben Hogan Award, grabbed medalist honors with a 9-under score of 201, earning an exemption into the 2025 Charles Schwab Invitational, Colonial's annual PGA TOUR stop.
- In addition to this week's high-profile Ben Hogan event, three other Red Raiders will be heading north to take part in the Second Les Fowler Individuals Invitational, hosted by Colorado, at Broadlands Golf Course in Broomfield, Colorado.
- Heading to the CU event is Simon Hovdal, Brady McHenry and Luke D'Alise.
- Broadlands Golf Course will play as a par-72 and 7,289 yards from the championship back tees. The course opened in 1999.
- The field consists of 37 individuals, in an event that will feature no groupings of teams.Â
- Competition will take place Sept. 29 (Mon.) and Sept. 30 (Tues.) with 8 a.m. MT shotgun starts both days.
- Scoring can be found on either Golf Genius or on Scoreboard.
