September 09, 2025 | Men's Basketball
LUBBOCK – One of Texas Tech's most anticipated basketball matchups each season will be featured on ESPN Big Monday when Kansas travels to Lubbock for an 8 p.m. tipoff on February 2, 2026 at United Supermarkets Arena. The primetime slot is one of six ESPN Big Monday games announced by the Big 12 for the upcoming 2025-26 season in advance of the full conference schedule. Â
Along with hosting Kansas, the Red Raiders will also play BYU, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU and Utah this season in Big 12 games at United Supermarkets Arena. The full conference schedule will be announced at a later date. Texas Tech has announced its full non-conference schedule, including its season opener against Lindenwood on Tuesday, November 4.
The Red Raiders are currently on their first two-game winning streak over the Jayhawks in program history, going 2-0 against KU in head coach Grant McCasland's first two seasons. Tech is coming off a 78-73 win over the Jayhawks last season in Lawrence after taking a 79-50 win in Lubbock on Feb. 12, 2024 – an ESPN Big Monday matchup. Last season, the Red Raiders and Jayhawks met up for a Saturday afternoon showdown that saw JT Toppin go for 21 points and five rebounds while Christian Anderson scored 15 points with five 3-pointers. Anderson and Toppin are the only returners who played in the game for Tech last season. The wins come after four straight losses against KU in a series where the Jayhawks are 43-9 all-time. Tech is 7-17 at home in the series.
Kansas is coming off a season where it went 21-13 overall and 11-9 in Big 12 play – finishing sixth in the conference. The Jayhawks earned an at-large bid for the program's 52nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament but would fall to Arkansas in the First Round to end the season. Bill Self returns for his 23rd season as the program's head coach, boasting a 609-156 record leading the Jayhawks. He enters this season with an 816-261 career record after also coaching at Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Illinois before starting in Lawrence during the 2003-04 season.
In its news release, the Big 12 highlighted that four teams reached the Sweet 16 in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, with Texas Tech advancing to the Elite 8 and Houston finishing as a National Finalist. The Conference had the nation's best winning percentage in the NCAA Tournament, as seven teams were selected for the Big Dance.
