Lady Raiders sweep doubleheader on Sunday

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 20-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders opened their spring season at the McLeod Tennis Center with an impressive doubleheader sweep this Sunday, taking down UTRGV and Abilene Christian by scores of 7-0.Â

Texas Tech (2-0) set the tone early in the season opener against UTRGV (0-1) by securing the doubles point in decisive fashion. On court three, Andreea Lila and Ella Brownback made quick work of Madeleine Joffe and Hitakamya Narwal with a 6-2 victory. Moments later, the No. 75-ranked duo of Hailey Murphy and Yekaterina Dmitrichenko sealed the doubles point on court one with a 6-3 win over Rhea Makesar and Mariia Bakhtina, giving the Lady Raiders an early lead.

The Lady Raiders continued their momentum into singles play over UTRGV after Elena Daskalova won her match against Joffe, who retired due to injury, after a flawless opening set, 6-0, and a 1-0 second-set lead. No. 110-ranked Murphy followed this up with a take down of Yaiza Vazquez, 6-0, 6-2, on court two, giving Tech the 3-0 lead. Â

Freshman Kseniia Logvin delivered the clinching point in her dual debut, overpowering Narwal 6-2, 6-0 in a swift battle. Play continued on the remaining courts, where the Lady Raiders completed the sweep as Brownback capped off the first match of the day with a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory over Luna Buijtenhuijs.

The Lady Raiders showed no signs of slowing down in the second match against ACU (0-2), once again jumping out to an early lead in doubles. On court two, Hlahola and Logvin dominated Maria Cascos and Angela Del Campo, 6–1. Dmitrichenko and Murphy followed on court one, earning their second doubles win of the day with a 6–2 decision over Masha Vrsalovic and Alice Klinteby to secure the point.

To close out doubles play for the day Dmitrichenko and Murphy clinched the point with a 6-2 win over Masha Vrsalovic and Alice Klinteby.

Logvin continued her standout day by setting the tone in singles play, cruising past Del Campo with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory on court three. Shortly after, Brownback kept the momentum rolling for the Lady Raiders, earning a straight-set win over Elsa Luthar on court six, 6-1, 6-3. Dmitrichenko clinched the match with a win over Vrsalovic, 6-3, 6-2.

Following the clinch, the Lady Raiders continued play with Hlahola earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Cascos on court two, while Lila took care of business on court four with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Klinteby. Daskalova closed out the day defeating Victoria Correa 6-1, 6-3 to complete the sweep.
Up next, the Lady Raiders welcome Long Beach State, Oklahoma State and Wichia State for ITA Kickoff Weekend at the McLeod Tennis Center on Jan. 23-24.
