The Red Raiders kick off the first of five Big 12 home games Sept. 19 against Houston
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech's path to defending its Big 12 Conference title will begin Sept. 19 when the Red Raiders host Houston as part of a nine-game conference slate that was officially unveiled Wednesday by the league office.
The Big 12 opener versus the Cougars comes in Week 3 of the schedule, breaking up a non-conference slate that features home dates with Abilene Christian on Sept. 5 to start the season and Sam Houston State on Sept. 26. The Red Raiders will go on the road to face Oregon State on Sept. 12, completing a home-and-home agreement with the Beavers that began with Texas Tech's 45-14 victory this past season.
Texas Tech will play four of its first six Big 12 games at home, with visits by Arizona State on Oct. 17, Arizona on Oct. 31 and West Virginia on Nov. 7. The matchup versus the Sun Devils pairs the conference's two previous Big 12 champions against each other in what should be a highly-anticipated midseason matchup inside Jones AT&T Stadium.
The Red Raiders will go on the road twice during that stretch, visiting Colorado on Oct. 3 and then Cincinnati on Oct. 24 in what will be Texas Tech's first-ever visit to Nippert Stadium. Texas Tech's one open date on the 2026Â schedule will follow the Colorado game on Oct. 10.
Texas Tech will play back-to-back road games just once next season, a stretch that begins with a trip to Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater on Nov. 14 to face an Oklahoma State program now coached by former Red Raider standout Eric Morris. The Red Raiders will follow that trip by heading to Baylor on Nov. 21 before closing the regular season Thanksgiving weekend for a Nov. 28 showdown with TCU in the "Battle for the Saddle" game.
The Edward Jones Big 12 Championship will move to a Friday night next season with the top-two teams in the conference standings meeting Dec. 4 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The Red Raiders topped BYU, 34-7, this past season as a record crowd of 85,519 watched Texas Tech secure its first Big 12 title and clinch an appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Texas Tech enters the 2026 season riding an eight-game winning streak inside Jones AT&T Stadium thanks to one of the best homefield advantages in college football. The Red Raiders, who averaged a school record 60,143 fans per game during its historic 2025 campaign, will play seven games in front of their home fans for the fourth time in the past five seasons.
Please note select games as part of the 2026 schedule announcement may be adjusted to select Fridays, other special dates and Black Friday. These games will be announced by the Big 12 office in the coming weeks.
