Foster announced his retirement Thursday after more than two decades at the pro and college levels
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech pitching coach Steve Foster announced his retirement from coaching Thursday following more than two decades of developing elite pitchers at both the professional and collegiate levels.
Foster spent one full season on the Texas Tech baseball staff as Tim Tadlock's pitching coach for the 2026 campaign. Prior to joining the Red Raiders, Foster was the pitching coach for the Colorado Rockies from 2015-21 and previously served tenures with the Miami Marlins (2007-09) and Kansas City Royals (2010-14).
"We'd like to thank Coach Foster for his time as our pitching coach and wish him well as he enters retirement," Tadlock said. "Steve is well regarded as a pitching coach at every level of baseball, and we appreciate the time he and his family dedicated to our program."
Foster, a native of Dallas, returned to his native state of Texas to be part of Tadlock's staff where he quickly helped establish a pitching lab focused on technology and analytics, using his experience at the professional level.
"As of Oct. 28, 2026, I have decided to retire from the game of baseball," Foster said. "I am thankful for the opportunity that Texas Tech University has given me to coach in my home state. I am grateful for the level of athletes that I have gotten to coach, and the people I have been around."
As part of Foster's retirement, Tadlock has announced Jacob Evans will assume the pitching coach role for the 2027 season. Evans joined the Red Raiders in August as Director of Pitching Development after spending the last seven seasons at both Oklahoma and Central Oklahoma.
