Lady Raiders take on three ranked teams this weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 32-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders have a tough weekend ahead as they take on No. 11 Arizona State, No. 37 Iowa and No. 60 Grand Canyon at the Red Blue Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., on Feb. 20-21. The Lady Raiders play Arizona State on Friday at 1 p.m. CT, before starting doubles against Grand Canyon and 5 p.m. CT. Tech will continue play on Saturday with singles against the Lopes at 11 a.m. CT, then take on Iowa at 4 p.m. CT in a full match.
Texas Tech (7-2) is coming off a 2-1 week where the team beat Arizona, 4-3, and Florida State, 4-0. On the singles side, the Lady Raiders are led in dual play by Mariia Hlahola with six wins, followed by Hailey Murphy with a perfect 5-0 record, three of those wins coming at the top court. Murphy earned a huge ranked win against UC Santa Barbara's No. 100 player, Ekua Youri. Her perfect week in California resulted in her first career Big 12 Player of the Week honor. On the dual doubles side, the No. 75-ranked team of Murphy and Yekaterina Dmitrichenko lead the team with a 7-1 record, all at court one.
The Lady Raiders lead the all-time series against the Sun Devils, 4-3, winning the last matchup on April 11, 2025 by a 4-2 score. Tech has only beaten Iowa once in four meetings in program history, however it happened in the last meeting on Jan. 25, 2020 with a 4-1 victory. The Lady Raiders and Grand Canyon have only played once in history, with Tech coming out on top, 7-2, on March 26, 1988.
The Sun Devils are ranked 11th in the country, holding a 5-2 record with wins over UC Davis, GCU, TCU, San Diego and No. 15 Pepperdine. Their two losses were against No. 19 USC and No. 2 Texas A&M. Arizona State is led in singles by Vivian Ovrootsky with a 5-0 record and No. 16-ranked Emilija Tverijonaite with a 4-0 record. In dual doubles, the duo of Tverijonaite and Ovrootsky lead the way with a 5-1 record.
GCU is 4-4 on the season with wins over DePaul, Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton and UAB. Their four losses were against UC San Diego, Arizona State, SMU and Auburn. The Lopes are led in dual singles by both Bella Crossman and Hams Metwally with four wins apiece. In dual doubles, there are two pairs with a team-best three wins each in Amalia Suciu/Payton Duckett and Crossman/Dania Deaifi.
Iowa is also 4-4 overall, with wins coming against Furman, NC Central, UC Santa Barbara and Iowa State. Their four losses were against Wichita State, No. 18 Texas, No. 12 Ohio State and No. 8 Duke. The Hawkeyes are led in dual singles by No. 67-ranked Mia Mack with a perfect 7-0 record. The No. 33-ranked doubles team of Mack and Daianne Hayashida lead the team with five wins, all coming at court one.
