Kaitlyn Terry gets first career no-hitter at Tech puts up 16 runs in win
PALM SPRINGS, California – Kaitlyn Terry tossed the first no-hitter of her career as Tech defeated UC Riverside 16-0 on Sunday morning to finish up its appearance in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Tech finished with a 5-0 record in California including three shutout wins.
The No. 2 Red Raiders (16-1) posted seven runs in the first inning to break open the game. Mihyia Davis doubled twice in the opening frame and Mia Williams and Desirae Spearman both hit two-run homers. Lagi Quiroga also left the yard with a three-run shot in second inning to round out a nine-home run weekend for Tech.
Tech added four more runs in the second inning and five runs in the fifth inning all while Terry and the defense shut down UC Riverside's offense. Terry finished the game with six strikeouts over 5.0 innings and allowed just two base runners on two walks – one of which would be eliminated on a double play.
Freshmen Brianna Hinson and Angelyna Conde recorded their first career plate appearances in their home state as Hinson recorded a single and Conde a walk – both came around to score. 12 different Red Raiders scored runs and 11 different players picked up hits.
Hailey Toney went 3-for-3 with two RBI as Spearman went 2-for-2 with three RBI. Alana Johnson and NiJaree Canady each recorded a hit and an RBI as Johnson singled and Canady doubled.
The Red Raider's 16 runs are the most this season and ended its long road trip with a nice win.
UP NEXT: No. 2 Tech will play at home for the first time this season as they host the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic.
