Williams, Toney combine for Eight RBI in win
February 05, 2026 | Softball
No. 1/2 Red Raider get first win of the season
NiJaree Canady picked up her first win of the season after going 4.0 innings with three strikeouts and allowing just one earned run. Desirae Spearman and Kaitlyn Terry combined for the final inning with Terry securing the final out on a pop out to second.
Mia Williams impressed in her Red Raider debut going 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles and a home run. Hailey Toney added four RBI of her own after going 3-for-3 with a pair of singles and a three-run homer in the first inning.
Mihyia Davis and Taylor Pannell also had multiple hits as Davis went 2-for-3 and scored three runs while Pannell went 2-for-4 with a solo home run that cleared the scoreboard in left field.
Lauren Allred added two RBI on a two-single with the bases loaded. Alana Johnson added an RBI with a solo homer while Jasmyn Burns got a run on the board with a sac-fly.
Jackie Lis added a hit as Tech finished with 13 hits, 13 runs and 13 RBI.
How It Happened:
Tech opened up the game with a walk by Davis. Williams quickly drove her in with a double and then came around to score on a sac fly by Burns. Toney capped off the inning with a three-run homer as Tech went up 5-0 and didn't look back.
Canady's first inning was dominant, striking out two batters and getting the third out via a pop out with a walk sandwiched in between. McNeese's first hit off Canady came in the third inning when they got their first run on the board, but that was all the reigning Pitcher of the Year would allow.
Tech added five more runs over the second and third innings thanks to RBI off the bat of Allred, Toney and Pannell.
In the fourth, McNeese was able to put its first 0 on the board against Tech's offense. They responded with their bats and had runners on the corners before Canady worked out of the jam, forcing a lazy fly ball to keep Tech up 10-1 heading into the last inning.
Williams two-run homer and Johnson's solo blast added some insurance as McNeese made things a little interesting at the end of the game, tacking on two more runs before running out of outs.
UP NEXT: Tech faces North Texas and ULM tomorrow before heading to College Station.
