No. 22 Tech splits Saturday contests

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 22 Texas Tech Lady Raiders split their two matches on Saturday at the Arnhold Tennis Center. Tech opened the day with a 4-0 sweep of the Florida State Seminoles before falling in an six-hour match to host-team UC Santa Barbara, 3-4.
Yesterday, Tech and Florida State (2-4) faced off in doubles play. The No. 62-ranked duo of Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy continued where they left off, taking down Tina Li and Laura Putz by a 6-1 score on court one. Then, Mariia Hlahola and Elena Daskalova clinched the doubles point at court two when they defeated Eva Shaw and MaryBoyce Deatherage, 6-2.
Hlahola gave the Lady Raiders a 2-0 lead after her opponent, Putz, retired at court three, winning her match by a 4-6, 3-0 score. Daskalova continued her momentum with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Li at court four. Clinching the match was Havana Kadi at court six after she overtook Lauren Anderson by a commanding, 6-1, 6-0 score.
Against UC Santa Barbara (4-3), the Lady Raiders (7-2) earned another doubles point. First, Daskalova and Hlahola defeated Ekua Youri and Shachf Lieberman, 6-2, at court two. Then, Tech got simultaneous wins at courts one and three. At the top court, No. 62 Dmitrichenko and Murphy beat My-Anh Holmes and Isabella Wong by a 6-3 score, then Polina Sleptsova and Ella Brownback overtook the duo of Lily Pradkin and Shanelle Iaconi at court three, 6-4.
In singles, Dmitrichenko extended the Tech lead to 2-0 when she defeated Wong in two sets, 6-3, 6-1, at court two. Murphy earned a ranked win after she beat No. 100 Youri in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2) at the top court. Even though the Lady Raiders held a 3-0 lead, the Gauchos were able to win after taking the singles matches at courts three through five in what was an over six-hour contest.
Up next, the Lady Raiders continue singles play against Florida State on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT before playing a full match against host UC Santa Barbara at 3 p.m. CT.
