Lady Raiders take down Cyclones

Ames, IOWA – The No. 23 Texas Tech Lady Raiders earned another strong win on Sunday, taking down Iowa State, 4-2, in an intense Big 12 matchup, led by Hailey Murphy who secured her fifth-ranked win this year.
Texas Tech (11-3, 2-0 Big 12) opened the day with a win in doubles play. The No. 75-ranked duo of Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Murphy battled in a tight 7-5 win at court one over Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Stanislava Shulzhenko to clinch the doubles point. At court two, Elena Daskalova and Mariia Hlahola won by a 7-5 score against the Cyclone duo Julia Camblor and Gabriella Kellner.
In singles, Hlahola extended Tech's lead over the Cyclones on court three, 6-1, 6-0, over Camblor. Freshman Havana Kadi followed with a straight-set victory on court six, defeating Valentina Vargas, 6-3, 6-2, to make it 3-0. Iowa State was able to cut into Tech's lead with two singles wins.
However, the match clincher came from Murphy at the top court when she picked up her fifth ranked singles win this year. After dropping the first set 0-6 against No. 64-ranked Vilar, Murphy fought back to claim the next two sets by 6-3, 6-1 scores to secure the win for the Lady Raiders.
Up next, the Lady Raiders are back at home to continue conference play against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Friday, March 6, at 4 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
