Bresnu, McHenry pace Red Raiders in first round at Pauma Valley

PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. — No. 10 Texas Tech opened play at the Pauma Valley Invitational on Monday with a 1-under 283 and sits tied for sixth after the first round at Pauma Valley Country Club.
Adam Bresnu and Brady McHenry led the Red Raiders with under-par rounds, and both sit inside the top 20 individually. Bresnu carded a 2-under 69 and is tied for 12th, while McHenry posted a 1-under 70 and is tied for 19th.
Bresnu opened his round with a bogey-free front nine and extended the streak through the 14th hole before a bogey on No. 15 moved him back to 2-under. He remained there after recording a birdie on the par-4 17th and a bogey on the closing par-4 18th.
McHenry highlighted his round with an eagle on the 456-yard par-4 ninth hole, turning an over-par front nine into a 1-under 35 at the turn. He played the back nine at even par to finish with a 1-under 70.
Tim Wiedemeyer sits tied for 27th after opening with an even-par 71, while Connor Graham is tied for 49th at 2-over 73. Simon Hovdal rounded out the Texas Tech lineup with a 5-over 76 and is tied for 80th.
No. 15 Tennessee leads the tournament after the opening round at 11-under 273, followed by No. 13 Ole Miss at 8-under. No. 7 Oklahoma State sits third at 5-under, with No. 20 Georgia Tech (-4) and SMU (-3) rounding out the top five.
Texas Tech will continue play Tuesday with the second round of the Pauma Valley Invitational. The Red Raiders' tee times begin at 10 a.m. CDT.Â
