Utah defeats Lady Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 29 Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to the No. 44 Utah Utes, 4-1, on Thursday evening at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Texas Tech (13-6, 4-3 Big 12) began the day by winning the doubles point against Utah (11-5, 4-2 Big 12) in dominant fashion. At court three, Ella Brownback and Polina Sleptsova earned the first win of the match with a 6-0 victory against Dylan Lolofie and Kamea Medora.
Clinching the doubles point was No. 38-ranked Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy against Sara Akid and Emma Valletta. The teams tied at 1-1 before the Lady Raider pair won four-consecutive games to make it 5-1. Utah claimed one more game before Tech closed it out with the 6-2 win at court one.
The Utes tied the match up at 1-1 when Kaila Barksdale defeated Sleptsova at court four by a 6-0, 6-4 score. Utah kept the momentum, getting the next two singles wins for a 3-1 advantage. At court two, Akid beat Dmitrichenko in three sets, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3, before Emmie Moore overtook Mariia Hlahola at court three, 7-6 (2), 6-4. Utah clinched the win after No. 121-ranked Emma Kamper defeated Murphy at court one, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-3.
Up next, the Lady Raiders face the BYU Cougars on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
