Red Raiders fall to No. 30 UCSB Gauchos

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. –  The No. 72 Texas Tech Red Raiders and the No. 30 UCSB Gauchos competed on Saturday afternoon in a tough battle as the Red Raiders fell to the Gauchos, 4-3.

Texas Tech (9-5) started doubles down a point after Lucca Liu and Miguel Avendano of UCSB (10-5) took down Sebastian Abboud and Thiago Guglieri on court one, 6-2. To close out doubles play, the Gaucho duo Diogo Morais and Lorenzo Brunkow defeat Red Raider duo Felipe Pagnacco and Thomas Van Den Dooren. On court two, play remained unfinished between Niksa Arsic and Tyler Stewart and Conrad Brown and Dominique Rolland, with UCSB duo in the lead, 5-3.

In singles play, the USCB Gauchos struck first after Ludovico Vaccari fell to No.46-ranked Rolland, 6-4, 6-2, on court two. Shortly following, Stewart gave the Red Raiders their first point of the match after taking down Miguel Avendano, 6-2, 6-3, on court three.

On court five, Guglieri fell in straight-sets to Charlie Underwood, 6-2, 6-4, as UCSB led by a 3-1 score. On court four, Pagnacco picked up the second point for the Red Raiders over Morais in matching straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. To clinch the match, Brown took down Abboud, 7-6, 7-5. When the match was clinched, play continued on court one with Arsic and No. 79 Liu in the third set. Arsic would get a ranked victory, defeating Liu, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Up next, the Red Raiders head to the Sunshine State to compete against the UCF Golden Knights on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
