Dickey among 50 on Walter Camp Award watch list
August 17, 2026 | Football
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech running back Cameron Dickey was named to the Walter Camp Award watch list, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Monday. The Walter Camp Award is presented annually to the nation's most outstanding player.
Dickey was one of 50 players named to the foundation's annual Player of the Year watch list, the nation's fourth-oldest individual college football accolade. The 2026 watch list includes 41 offensive players (22 quarterbacks, 11 running backs and eight receivers/tight ends) along with nine players from the defensive side of the ball.
"We are proud to continue the great work of Walter Camp, considered the father of American football, and recognize the very best college football players in the nation," Foundation President Michael Madera said. "This watch list is a great start to what is shaping up to be another exciting year of college football."
Monday's watch list represents the second preseason honor for Dickey, who was also tabbed to the Maxwell Award watch list. Like the Walter Camp Award, the Maxwell Award recognizes the most outstanding player in college football. Dickey enters his junior season coming off a breakout sophomore campaign in which he became the ninth Red Raider in program history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, finishing with 1,124 yards. He was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection by the conference coaches and a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award last season.
The 2026 Player of the Year watch list will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in early November, with three finalists announced in early December. The 2026 Walter Camp Player of the Year, which is voted on by the 138 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced in the second week of December.
