Prior to Texas Tech
- Named 2024-25 Washington Gatorade Player of the Year
- Averaged 24.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.2 steals per game as a senior at Rainier Beach High School
- A four-star recruit and the top player out of Washington
- Led Rainier Beach to the Class 3A State Championship and earned state tournament most valuable player honors after scoring 26 points in the state championship game
- As a senior, he shot 46.6 percent on 3-point attempts and 59.5 percent from the floor while also maintained a 3.89 GPA in the classroom
- High school career was highlighted by recording a triple-double, going for 61 points, 15 assists and 15 steals. Petty played his sophomore and junior seasons at Auburn High, and over three years in high school, he averaged 25.3 points per game while shooting 46.8 percent on 3-pointers.
- Petty was a McDonald’s All-American nominee, adidas All-America, NBPA Topp 100 selection, a two-time Donovan Mitchell camp participant, an Allen Iverson Showcase selection and the Iverson Class 24K Showcase MVP
