SOPHOMORE SEASON (2022-23): Averaged 10.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.3 assists in 31 games played… Scored in double figures in 16 games, including a career-high 27 points at West Virginia where he was 11-for-15 from the field with three 3-pointers… Ranked eighth in the Big 12 with his 6.1 rebounds per game and was 12th with 1.4 steals per game... Tied for Tech lead with three double-doubles and also had three more games where he finished with nine rebounds – just one shy of double-doubles in each… Started all 18 games in Big 12 play and finished the conference schedule averaging 11.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game… Made his Tech debut in the season opener against Northwestern State where he hit a 3-pointer for the first shot of the season for Tech… Recorded the first double-double of his career with a career-high 14 rebounds and 12 points at Texas before having 19 points and 12 rebounds against Baylor at home… Would record his third with 19 points and 10 rebounds at Baylor in Waco… Finished the season shooting 127-for-263 (48.3 percent) and was 43-for-107 (40.2 percent) on 3-pointers… Had a season-high four 3-pointers in an 18-point effort against Georgetown in the Big 12-Big East Battle… Made two or more 3-pointers in 13 games and at least one 3-pointer in 22 of 30 games played… Missed only one game due to injury – Tech’s matchup against Nicholls… Finished the season with five points and six rebounds in the Big 12 Championship first-round loss to WVU. PRIOR TO TEXAS TECH: Tyson joined Texas Tech in December 2021 as a transfer from Texas... He went to John Paul II High School where he helped lead the school to its first-ever TAPPS class 6A state championship during his junior season... Individually, he was ranked as the No. 34 prospect in the nation by Rivals, No. 35 by 247 Sports Composite and No. 42 by ESPN... As a senior, Tyson led John Paul II HS to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Class 6A state semifinals... He earned first-team TAPPS all-state and district Most Valuable Player accolades after averaging 22.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game... Tyson averaged 23.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game during the run to the state title as a junior. He led the team to a 40-1 record and also earned first-team TAPPS all-state and district MVP honors... Tyson played in eight games as a reserve for Texas as a freshman in the 2021-22 season before transferring to Tech at midterm... He averaged 1.8 points and 1.1 rebounds per game for the Longhorns before entering the transfer portal on Dec. 27, 2021 to reopen his recruitment which led back to Texas Tech...
