DeRuyter arrived in Lubbock after spending the 2018 season in a similar role at the University of Arizona. She was previously a football operations and recruiting student worker at her alma mater, Texas A&M, for four seasons (2014-17) before accepting a position with the NFL Players Association.

DeRuyter graduated cum laude from Texas A&M in 2017 with a degree in sports management and a minor in business administration and communication.
DeRuyter is the daughter Tim and Kara DeRuyter. Her father is currently the defensive coordinator and outside linebackers at Cal following a five-year stint as the head coach at Fresno State.
