Nathan Weant is in his third season as the Texas Tech men's golf assistant coach.

Weant, who played for the Red Raiders from 2011-13, returned to Lubbock after working as an assistant coach at Louisiana-Monroe and head coach at Indian Hills Community College. In the past two seasons with Weant on the Tech staff, the program has advanced to the NCAA Championship and finished at No. 8 in the 2022 national rankings. The Red Raiders advanced to the 2022 NCAA Championship quarterfinal, making the match play at the tournament after finishing eighth through stroke play.

Along with team success, Weant has helped individuals improve their game. Ludvig Aberg has earned All-American honors in both of Weant's seasons and was named the 2022 Ben Hogan Award winner.

“It’s a dream come true to come back to Texas Tech in this role and work with Coach Sands,” Weant said. “He inspired me as a player and has guided me as a young coach. I’ve always loved Texas Tech and look forward to helping this team continue to be one of the elite programs in the country.”

Sands added: “I’m so happy to have Nathan Weant on our staff. He is a former Red Raider golfer and bleeds Red and Black. His relational skills and his love of the game make his personality infectious and I know our players will love having him lead them and playing for him.”

Weant led Indian Hills to the 2018 NJCAA Division I National Championship and was named the NJCAA Dave Williams National Coach of the Year, the Delnor Poss National Coach of the Year and NJCAA District 3 Coach of the Year. His team had four All-American selections with three being named Jack Nicklaus Award finalist.

Following his national championship run at Indian Hills, Weant progressed in his career by becoming the assistant coach at ULM where he immediately helped the Warhawks win two tournament titles and to the best national ranking in program history. The team finished as the 2019 Sunbelt Conference Championship runner-up. In two seasons, ULM won three tournaments and had 17 team and individual school records established. The team earned a top-5 victory over Vanderbilt and he was also part of helping the program to build a state of the art facility on its campus.

Weant was a student-athlete at Texas Tech for three seasons where he played for Sands. He redshirted his first season before playing in eight tournaments over two years. A Hallsville, Texas native, Weant returned to East Texas when he transferred to Stephen F. Austin to play his final two seasons of collegiate golf. He played in 20 tournaments as a Lumberjack, including earning a top-10 finishes at the Bob Sitton Invitational as a senior and as a junior at the Texas A&M Reveille Challenge.
