Chris Williams moves into his fifth season as the lead athletic trainer for the Texas Tech men’s basketball program. He has over 10 years of experience in the athletic training field.
The Red Raiders have secured 77 victories over Williams’ first four seasons and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2017-18. He was a part of the team that secured the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth in 10 years during the 2015-16 season.
Williams came to Texas Tech after he spent two years as the Director of Athletic Training at Bradley University. He acted as primary athletic trainer for the men’s basketball program along with the men’s and women’s tennis teams and held various administrative duties within the department.
Prior to Bradley, Williams was a member of the athletic training staff at Florida State University from 2010-2012. He worked exclusively with football and was a part of the 2011 Chick-fil-a and 2012 Champs Sports Bowl staffs.
Williams spent a year as the men’s basketball athletic trainer at Kent State where he was part of the 2010 Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship staff. He also possesses National Football League (NFL) experience where he was an athletic training intern in 2005 and did a full-year internship with the New England Patriots during the 2008-2009 season.
Williams earned his master’s degree in adult education from North Carolina State University in 2008. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Athletic Training from The Ohio State University and passed his Certification Exam in 2006.
Williams had the opportunity to work with the football team which won the 2005 Big Ten Championship and 2006 Fiesta Bowl as a senior athletic training student. He also handled athletic training duties for football during his two seasons at NC State.
Williams married Elsie Foli on May 29, 2016. The couple lives in Lubbock.
