Martincevic and Shupe Eliminated at ITA Clay Courts

Baltimore, Md.- - Texas Tech's Borut Martincevic and Ryan Shupe, the No. 1 doubles combination for the Red Raiders, advanced to the main draw but could make it no further at the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships Friday at Suburban Country Club. The Red Raider pair lost their first round and consolation round matches at the tournament
The Texas Tech duo fell to Ed Dus and Rodrigo Echagary of Kansas 6-4, 6-1 in their first round match. In the consolation round Martincevic and Shupe faced Ken Kigongo and Francisco Trinidad from Michigan State. Martincevic and Shupe fell in the first set 6-3, then retired due to injury after falling behind 1-0 in the second set.
In singles play Martincevic reached the second round of the consolation bracket before falling to Tom Dalby of Alabama-Birmingham 6-4, 6-4.
Martincevic, who is ranked No. 51 in the nation, had received an automatic entry into the main draw. He lost a closely contested first match to Wesley Moodie of Boise State, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Martincevic went on to win his first match in the consolation bracket against Alex Osterrieth of Arizona State (6-4, 6-1) before bowing out against Dalby.
The men's team will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Tulsa, Okla. For the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Invitational.
