September 30, 2001 | Baseball
LUBBOCK, Texas - For the second straight season, Larry Hays and staff have brought in one of the Top 30 baseball recruiting classes in the nation as the 2001-02 Red Raider newcomer class has been tabbed 16th by the writers of Collegiate Baseball Magazine.
Tech garnered the No. 13 position last season and that group of newcomers helped lead Tech to a second place finish in the Big 12 and to a runner-up finish in the NCAA Fullerton Regional at Cal-State Fullerton. The Red Raiders welcome back five starters from last year's team that went 43-20-1 as well as 15 newcomers.
Tech joined six other Big 12 schools that were ranked in the Top 30 (Oklahoma (11), Texas (12), Oklahoma State (15), Texas Tech (16), Baylor (25) and Texas A&M (30)).
