LUBBOCK, Texas - The majority of the men's and women's track squads will travel to Palo Alto, Calif., to compete in the Stanford Invitational, Thursday. The remainder of the team will open the 2002 outdoor season at home in the Texas Tech Invitational, Thursday.
The women are coming off a fifth-place finish last weekend at the Texas Four Way in Austin, Texas, in its first action of the outdoor season, while the men placed third at the same meet.
The men's 4x100-meter relay of Albert Booker, Julieon Raeburn, Ivory McCann and Carlos Francis posted a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 40.10 seconds last weekend and looks to better its time at home. Redshirt freshman Jason Young also provisionally qualified in the discus with a toss of 187 feet-four inches.
In being named Big 12 Male Athlete of the Week, Raeburn placed first in the 200, third in the 100, as well running the second leg of the 4x100.
On the women's side, senior Monique Wright-Cruse will look to improve on a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 and 200.
A few of the distance runners will travel to California Thursday as the Stanford Invitational is known as a great race for runners to turn in NCAA qualifying times.
