TEXAS TECH QUOTES
ASSISTANT COACH PAT KNIGHT
On today's game:
"We got off to a really bad start. We just have a hard time with A&M."
"We had a better idea after 2 minutes into today's game who is going to be making big plays for us."
"We took too many jump shots. We had no patience in the first half."
"If you look at our shot selection in the second half, it's obvious we were shooting a lot better."
On OSU:
"It's going to be a tough game. We both match-up really well against each other. I think it is a good game for us to prepare for the NCAA tournament."
JUNIOR GUARD WILL CHAVIS
On the different play of the Red Raiders in the second half:
"We had intensity that we did not have in the first half. In the second half we stepped it up and that brought more energy to the game."
SENIOR CENTER ANDY ELLIS
On the inside game of the Red Raiders:
"We try to get the ball inside in every game we play to open up our outside game. We have a lot of guys who can knock down jump shots. We didn't get very many shots inside in the first half, so in the second half we changed that."
On his 3-pointer at the end of the first half:
"My teammates got me open and I have been able to knock down 3-pointers all season. We got the lead down to two. We went into the lockerroom at halftime and we didn't like how we were playing. So we talked and we changed that in the second half."
TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Thursday, March 7, 2002 / Kemper Arena / Kansas City, Mo.
Head Coach MELVIN WATKINS
On the game:
"I thought the first half we did things we wanted to do in terms of executing the offense and getting the looks we wanted. We came out the second half and we didn't get off to a good start."
On Tech's surge to start the second half:
"It surely didn't help. You always want to get a good start to the second half and we didn't. That gave them more confidence."
JUNIOR GUARD BERNARD KING
On change in post play from first to second half:
"They just kept pounding it inside. We started to get a little careless once we got it inside and that started to make us kick it out more."
On season:
"We started the season off, coach and the team did, with high expectations. As the season went on we had problems, and that hurts real bad. We kept playing as a team, but we've never went through situations with the record that we had and once again injuries started to play a role and once again we were short and ended up with basically the same team we had last year."
SENIOR GUARD ANDY LEATHERMAN
On the season:
"We had a lot of bad luck. We were hoping for a lot this season, but unfortunately so many things went wrong. But it builds character and I learned a lot through it."
JUNIOR FORWARD KEITH BEAN
On the game:
"We made a lot of those little mistakes in the end. We had a two point lead at halftime, but those little mistakes hurt us. We just have to learn to overcome that. That has basically been the story with our entire season."
