Tech Completes Competition at the 75th Annual Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field teams wrapped up the final day of competition at the 75th Annual Texas Relays Saturday afternoon with both the men and women's relay teams turning in NCAA provisional times.
Late last night the men's 1,600 sprint medley team sprinted to a 3 minute 17.25 seconds finish and first place. The legs of freshman Ivory McCann, junior Julieon Raeburn, freshman Albert Booker and freshman Jonathan Johnson turned in the fastest time by two full seconds ahead of second place Oklahoma.
Today, the 4x100 relay raced in the finals after posting a qualifying time of 39.81 on Friday. In the finals the team provisionally qualified for the NCAA outdoor meet with a time of 39.46 as it finished third.
The 4x400 relay raced in the exclusive C. Price race which is determined by seed time. The team placed 8th with a time of 3:13.89.
On the women's side, the 4x100 earned the right to race in today's finals by posting a time of 39.81 in yesterday's preliminaries. Today, the team finished 6th with a time of 45.19.
The 4x400 relay posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:36.05 in finishing third in today's finals. Yesterday the squad turned in a time of 3:38.58 in earning the right to complete this afternoon. Late last night the women's 1,600 sprint medley team placed third with a time of 3:17.25. Sophomore Tiffany Green ran the opening leg with a 200 meter time of 23.6. She handed the baton off to Ashley Mitchell who also ran the 200 posting a time of 23.5. Licretia Sibley ran a 52.7 400 and handed off to the anchor, Shannon Spaulding. Spaulding ran to a 2:09.50 finish in the 800 meter portion of the medley giving the Red Raiders third.
