
Track and Field Teams to Start Spring Practices Wednesday

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field teams will start spring practices Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Athletic Training Center as they prepare for the upcoming 2003 season.
New to the staff this year are three coaches; Don D. Hood (vaulters), Mika J?rvinen (multis) and David Oaks (sprints). All three coaches have aided head coach Wes Kittley in bringing in the athletes to give the squads the talent and depth across the board to compete for a conference crown.
The pole vaulters will officially open the season this weekend as they travel to Reno, Nev., for the U.S. Pole Vault Summit while the rest of the team will have to wait until the following weekend to start its season.
Tech will host three indoor meets this year and five total, starting with the Red Raider Open on Jan. 25. The Big 12 Indoor Championships will be held in Lincoln, Neb., Feb. 28 - March 1, with the NCAA Championships being contested March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark.
The outdoor season will race into action at R.P. Fuller Stadium March 28-29 with the Texas Tech Invitational. The Big 12 Outdoor Championships will be run May 17-19 in Austin, Texas, and will be followed by the NCAA Regional Meet May 30-31. The track and field season will come to a close with the NCAA Championships June 11-14 in Sacramento, Calif.
