LUBBOCK, Texas - Coming off a strong showing in 2002, the Texas Tech men's track and field team earned its first preseason Trackwire 25 Power Ranking, released Tuesday.
The #24 ranking marks the first time since Wes Kittley took over the Red Raider track programs in 2000 that either team has earned a spot on Trackwire's ranking.
"I am excited that we are ranked in the top 25," said Kittley. "To be viewed as one of the top 25 teams with 300 schools competing is great. This just shows that we are building a reputation as a force in track and field."
LSU, Arkansas, Tennessee and South Carolina ranked in the top 4 spots, respectively, while Texas was the highest ranked Big 12 school at 15. Other Big 12 schools; Baylor, Texas A&M and Nebraska were tied at 18.
