First Pitch Luncheon/Alumni Game
January 30, 2003 | Baseball
The Texas Tech Baseball team kicked off their 2003 campaign with the Second-Annual First Pitch Luncheon sponsored by The Tech Hecklers. This marked the second straight year that the Hecklers sponsored the event and it also marked the second straight sellout. This year over 550 fans attended the luncheon and the Hecklers announced that they will be moving to a large facility next year in order to handle the large amounts of ticket requests. The luncheon featured former Dodger great Orel Hershiser who gave fans in attendance a preview of his Texas Ranger pitching staff. Texas Tech Head Coach Larry Hays previewed this year's team and made special introductions of the alumni players who were in attendance.
On Saturday, Jan. 25, the day after the First Pitch Luncheon, the Red Raiders kicked off the season with the Alumni Game. The game featured an Alumni Team that was made up solely of former players who are currently on major league or minor league rosters.
