
Tech Volleyball Loses Heartbreaker to Iowa State

LUBBOCK, Texas - Tech was dealt a heartbreaking loss tonight by Iowa State losing in four games (30-18, 27-30, 22-30, 21-30) at the United Spirit Arena. Tech took game one but could not overcome a momentum change in the favor of the Cyclones that would secure the win.
Game one started with a 5-0 Red Raider run with the Cyclones never closing in on the Red Raiders by more than five points. At 19-8 when Tech had its biggest lead of the game, the Cyclones started their own 6-0 run which was stopped by a Kiley Lyon's kills. Lyons finished second on the team with 14 kills, 10 digs and three assisted blocks. The Raiders closed the game on a high note shutting down the Cyclones 30-18.
The momentum shifted in game two and it wasn't in Tech's favor. After hitting -.103 in game one ISU improved to .220 with Tech falling from .353 to .128. ISU earned its first lead of the match at 5-3 in game two with the teams switching leads throughout the match. Tech went on a 5-0 run to bring back the lead to 16-15 including an ace by Kelly Johnson of which she had three on the night. Johnson finished the match with 23 kills, the most this season in conference play. Tech would hold the lead till the Cyclones broke out of a 26-26 tie to win the game.
The Cyclone momentum continued with the team hitting in the .300s in both games three and four. Junior Jessy Herrera held a match-high 20 digs while sophomore Jessica Watson recorded for assisted blocks. Junior Daneen Grisham served two aces against the Cyclones, a career best.
Tech will next host Kansas Saturday Oct. 4 at the United Spirit Arena at 1 p.m.
