Women's Golf Stays In Top Three After Round Two

LUBBOCK, Texas - In its second day of competition, the women's golf team held on to their third place tie at the Price's 'Give Em 'Five' Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. No.41 Tech is now tied with Baylor, moving ahead of No. 23 Florida State after shooting a second round 304, four strokes over yesterday's finish. No. 3 Oklahoma is leading the field with a score of 598, six strokes ahead of Tech.
Junior Kim Kolb made an exceptional showing jumping from 10th place yesterday to tie for first after two rounds. Kolb shot a 74, 72 to head into round three at two over par. Juniors Megan Hull and Sheila Mendez are in a seven way tie for 18th with Hull falling from a first round 72 to 80. Mendez remained consistent, shooting 76s both rounds.
After shooting a 78 in round one, Senior Jackie Ey improved to a 31st place with a second round 76. Freshman Leslie Wall is in 78th place with rounds of 80 and 85. As an individual, sophomore Hazel Tan improved seven strokes after round one shooting a 78 today. Freshman Christina Kovalcik also made an individual appearance, currently tied for 86th after shooting 84,88.
The top five teams include No. 3 Oklahoma, Louisiana State, Baylor, No. 41 Texas Tech and No. 23 Florida State. Kansas State, San Jose State, No. 42 New Mexico State, Hawaii, Arizona State, UTEP, Arkansas-Little Rock, Western New Mexico, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Northern Arizona and North Texas.
