
Texas Tech Track Inks Eight Top Athletes

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech track announced today the signing of six men and two women athletes for the 2004-2005 season. Head coach Wes Kittley is coming off his third season of a top four recruiting class and looks for next season's team to follow suit.
Bangs, Texas native Bobby Evers was the 2A 2003 long jump champion with a mark of 24'-9" and 2003 runner-up in triple jump with a mark of 48'-3". He is also a national top ten returnee.
The team will see four transfers including three from South Plains College. Jamie Robinson from Clyde, Texas, has personal bests including 200'-2" in the javelin and 6755 points in the decathlon. Corpus Christi, Texas native Richard Miller's personal bests include 188'-5" in the discus and 53'-0" in the shot put. Andrae Williams from Freeport, Bahamas, is an experienced sprinter also from South Plains College. Williams has personal bests in the 400m with 46.39 and 1:51.00 in the 800m, also finishing in the 4th in the Junior Pan Am Championships this past summer.
Southwestern Christian Junior College transfer Michael Mathiew, was also a participant at the Junior Pan Am Championships after his freshman year at SCJC. His personal bests include a 46.49 in the 400m and 20.80 in the 200m. Tech's final addition for the men's team is Jeremy Busby. Busby is a senior in Paducah, Texas who finished 4th in state last year in the triple jump with personal bests including 23'-3" in the long jump and 45'-7" in the triple jump. He also has a personal best time in the 100m, of 10.70. Kittley feels that this recruiting class along with the current team will lay down a great foundation.
"This is an exceptional recruiting class. This class could really surpass what we have done the past two years, " said Kittley. "With us signing them early, it is really exciting to see how they finish out before coming here next fall."
The women's signees include nationally ranked pole vaulter Britni Lawrence who is ranked as the top female returner with a height of 12'-10". Lawrence attends Buda High School in Buda, Texas and was the 5A Champion in the pole vault as a junior. Destiny Nixon from Fort Worth Eastern Hills High School returns for her senior year as the 2003 State Champion in the 300m hurdles.
