Women's Golf Closes Fall Season With Second Place Finish

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 47 women's golf team closed out its fall campaign in style with a second place finish at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. The team shot 908 (307, 300, 301) for its third top 10 finish of the season.
Senior Jackie Ey led the team both days, wrapping up play with a 224 (73,79,72) and a sixth place finish. She finished one stroke ahead of her personal best, which she set last season at the Lady Aztec Invitational. Junior Sheila Mendez finished tied for 13th, her best finish of the season after shooting 226 (75, 73, 78).
Junior Kim Kolb shot 232 (79, 71, 82) to finish in 24th. Junior Megan Hull and freshman Christina Kovalcik tied for 40th after shooting 235. Hull shot 80,77, 78 while Kovalcik turned in rounds of 80, 82, 73.
No. 43 Notre Dame won the tournament with a score of 892. No. 47 Texas Tech, No. 38 Kansas State, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina round out the top five. Maryland, USF, Campbell, College of Charleston and Western Carolina placed in the top ten while Kansas, North Carolina-Greensboro, Winthrop, Charleston Southern, Arkansas State, Appalachian State, Cincinnati and Citadel complete the field.
The Red Raiders will not again tee off until Feb. 23 2004, when they play at the Central Regional Invitational in Parrish, Fla.
