LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech pole vault coach Don D. Hood is taking the Tech pole vaulters to the Sooner Indoor Invitational in Norman, Okla., Saturday as a final run-through before the Big 12 Championships next week.
Thus far, 2003 has been very successful for the Red Raiders in the pole vault as three men have already broken the 17-foot mark and two women have held the school record at one point.
Ken Wilson (Lewisville, Texas), Buster McLain (Gruver, Texas) and Bobby Most (Laredo, Texas) all have season best vaults of 17-feet, 1-inch. For Wilson the height is a new personal record (PR).
Freshman Dana Rosenbladt (Mandeville, La.) currently holds the school record at 11'-10". Krista Grantham (New Braunfels, Texas) held the record for a short time at the U.S. Pole Vault Summit, with a vault of 11'-5.75", before Rosenbladt's elevation of 11-feet, 7.75-inches at the same meet.
This weekend's meet includes several Division-I schools as teams prepare for conference meets next week. Schools scheduled to compete in Norman include, Arkansas (women), New Mexico State, North Texas and SMU, as well as conference opponents Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
Next weekend the vaulters will join the rest of the team at the Big 12 championships in Lincoln, Neb. Last year the Tech men placed 10th at the conference meet, while the women finished 8th.
