LUBBOCK, Texas - Jonathan Johnson earned Tech its second NCAA provisional qualifying time of the 2003 season as he streaked to a season-best finish of 1:49.94 in the 800m, as the Red Raiders claimed a total of 13 gold-medals Saturday at the Red Raider Classic in Lubbock, Texas.
Dana Rosenbladt (Mandeville, La.) broke her own school record in the pole vault as she vaulted 11'-10" in winning the event. Rosenbladt has now broke school records in two of her first three college meets.
Tech had several standout performances as it went 1-2 in four different events including the men's pole vault, high jump, 800m and the women's mile run. A week after earning a NCAA qualifying mark, Mike Beasley (Abilene, Texas) cleared 6-feet-11-inches as he and Chad Pharis (Vernon, Texas) tied at the height to place first and second. The mark was an indoor PR for Pharis.
This week, top pole vault honors went to Bobby Most (Laredo, Texas) who took top honors with a vault of 17'-1" in placing ahead of Jared Thornhill (Snyder, Texas) and Ken Wilson (Lewisville, Texas) who both cleared 16'-7.25". Johnson (Abilene, Texas) was followed across the finish line by freshman Kyle Atwood (Muleshoe, Texas) who turned in a time of 1:53.39.
Brionne Yosten (Hereford, Texas) ran to a new PR in the mile posting a time of 5:00.96 as she claimed the first of two first-place finishes on the day. Second went to Tracie Akerhielm (Sulpher Springs, Texas) who ran to a 5:10.60 finish.
The Red Raiders will conclude their 2003 indoor home schedule as they host the Red Raider Invitational Fri., Feb. 7.
