Fayetteville, Ark. - Competition in the 2003 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships came to a close Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., with the Red Raiders scoring four points for the meet.
Mike Beasley (Abilene, Texas) entered the indoor championships seventh on the NCAA's descending order list with a season-best height of 7-feet, 2.25-inches. After clearing the opening height of 6'-8.75" on his first attempt, the Wylie High School product ran into trouble.
A miss at 6'-10.75" on Beasley's first attempt was followed by a second miss. With 14 of 20 competitors clearing the second height, Beasley could not follow suit fouling on his third, and final, attempt.
The senior ends his indoor career with the lowest clearance of the season after not jumping less than 6'-11" during the 2003 regular season.
The four points scored at the meet equals last year's point total and is the second most points scored at the indoor championships for the men's team, bettered by the total of six points during the 1981, '83, '91 and '97 seasons.
ESPN2 will air the indoor championships Mon., March 17 at 12:30 p.m.
This weekend's meet concludes the 2003 indoor season. The outdoor season will begin next weekend as a partial squad will travel to San Antonio, Texas, for the UTSA-Whataburger Relays.
