
Individual Tracksters Fair Well in Light Week

Lubbock, Texas - After two solid weekends of competition the Texas Tech men and women's track and field teams were given the weekend off to rest before competing at the Drake Relays, April 24-26. But still the Red Raiders will have a presence in three meets.
Six members of the women's team competed at the Indian Relays in Abilene, Texas, Thursday. Krista Grantham (New Braunfels, Texas) took third in the pole vault with an elevation of 11-feet, 6.25-inches. Freshman Dana Rosenblast (Mandeville, La.) took fifth with the same mark on more misses, while Ashley Ramsey (Petersburg, Texas) finished seventh with a height of 11'-0.25".
Megan Schuessler (Llano, Texas) took first-place in the discus with a fling of 150'-9" and second in the shot put with a toss of 42'-2.75. Olivia Clardy (Abilene, Texas) won the hammer throw with a mark of 168'-2" and placed fifth in the discus with a distance of 134'-8". Clardy's mark in the hammer is the third-best distance in school history as the sophomore now holds two of the top three school marks.
In the men's pole vault, Bobby Most (Laredo, Texas) led the way with a first-place jump of 17'-2.25". Sophomore Jared Thornhill (Snyder, Texas) was second in the event with an elevation of 16'-6.5" followed by Ken Wilson (Lewisville, Texas) and Seth Harris (Boyd, Texas) who placed fourth and sixth, respectively.
At the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., Tracie Akerhielm (Sulpher Springs, Texas) won the University/Open division of the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16-minutes, 48.34-seconds and was followed by teammate Bridget Tidwell (Crawford, Texas) who took third with a 16:51.18 finish. Both marks are NCAA regional qualifying marks.
Later this weekend, Aki Heikkinen (Aanekoski, Finland) will compete at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas, and Jonathan Johnson (Abilene, Texas) will run in the Invitational division of the 800 at the Mt. SAC Relays.
