LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team will begin preparations for the upcoming 2004 season, as over 47 players will compete for a roster position when fall workouts begin on Monday.
Head Coach Larry Hays will welcome back just 12 letterwinners from last year's team that finished the season with a 30-25 overall a record, just missing the postseason for the first time since 1993. A total of 35 newcomers will hit the turf on Dan Law Field for the first time.
"I think all of us are ready to get the bad taste out of our mouth that is still lingering from last year," said head coach Larry Hays. "We certainly don't want to experience that again so we are going to take things pretty seriously this fall. We have a lot of guys trying to compete for a spot on the roster so we are looking forward to some great competition in the fall."
Fall practice is scheduled to begin on Monday, Sept. 22 and will run through Saturday, Oct. 18. The annual seven-game Red & Black Series is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Oct. 11 and last until the final day of fall workouts. All practices are scheduled to begin at 2:15 each day at Dan Law Field with the team taking off Sunday and Wednesday each week.
A complete fall roster will be available as final details are worked out.
