Tech Golf In Top Five After Round Two

LUBBOCK, Texas - Tech golf proved it could compete with the best after earning a fifth place spot after two rounds at the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The team shot a first round 313 but improved to a six over par 298 to place outside of a pack of top-25 teams.
Tech's leader senior Stephanie Dukes fell from 12th to 23rd after shooting a round two 75 the same as yesterday's round. Junior Megan Hull dropped from 26th to a 33rd place tie after shooting a 76 one stroke better than yesterday's round.
Juniors Kim Kolb and Sheila Mendez both improved to a five way tie for 38th, logging identical rounds of 80 and 74. Freshman Leslie Wall shot an 80 today falling to a 69th place tie. Christine Kovalcik, as an individual, improved to 93rd after shooting 93 then 78.
The tournament's top five teams after round two include No. 18 New Mexico with a score of 576, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 23 Tulsa, No. 2 Pepperdine and Texas Tech. Brigham Young University, Baylor and UTEP are in a tie for sixth while Texas A&M and UNLV are tied for ninth. TCU, No. 21 Arizona State, New Mexico State, San Diego State, Hawaii, Colorado State, Wyoming round out the 17 team field.
