The Texas Tech pole vaulters started indoor season a little early as they competed at the U.S. Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., this past weekend. Competing at one of the largest pole vault competitions in the nation, the team faired well with five Red Raiders finishing in the top five of their flight.
The men's team was led by Jared Thornhill (Snyder, Texas) and Sage Thames (Wolfforth, Texas) who both cleared 16'-5" (5.00m) to place 11th and 13th, respectively. Ken Wilson (Lewisville, Texas) cleared 16'-6.75" (5.05) to take fifth in his flight while Chris Ashcraft (Albuquerque, N.M.) turned in a 10th place finish with a mark of 16'-0.75" (4.90).
Dana Rosenbladt (Manderville, La.) not only led Tech but the competition as she cleared a competition-high 12'-7.5" (3.85m). With this mark she not only set a personal best but also broke her own school record of 11'-10" (3.61m) set at last years Big 12 Championships. In the same flight Krista Grantham (New Braunfels, Texas) cleared 11'-5.75 (3.50m) for a seventh-place finish while Ashley Rodgers (Petersburg, Texas) finished 14th with a mark of 10'-10" (3.30m). In her flight, Lindsey Walesheck (Cedar Park, Texas) cleared a height of 10'-2" (3.10m) to finish in second. Whitney Mounce (Carlsbad, N.M.) finished in eighth, clearing a height of 9'-2.25" (2.80m).
The rest of the team will begin action Jan. 23 as Tech hosts the Red Raider All-Comers at the Athletic Training Center in Lubbock, Texas.
