Texas Tech Track Opens 2004 Action

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track team opened its season today at the Red Raider All-Comers Invitational at the Athletic Training Center in Lubbock, Texas. The team will continue action tomorrow as it competes against UTEP, UNT, SMU and UTSA.
In jumps, Bliss Williams competed in the long jump, posting a mark of 15'-3.5" (4.66m) and finishing in 11th. Derik Melton jumped a mark of 19'-3.25" (5.87m) to finish in 10th, while Janalyn Givens turned in a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 38'-9"(11.81m).
Olivia Clardy led the competition, placing first in the weight throw with a mark of 54'-1.25"(16.49m). Jason Young with a mark of 61'-.25"(18.60m) took third in the weight throw while Brad Kilpatrick turned in a seventh-place finish with a mark of 47'-.25"(14.33m).
Geralda Dukuly was the top collegiate competitor in the long jump with a mark of 18'-8.25"(5.70m), good enough for a second-place finish. Bliss Williams also competed with an 11th-place finish and a mark of 15'-3.5" (4.66m)
In the women's pole vault Tech had five competitors, three of which placed in the top nine and two of which placed in the top three. Kelley Schulz had a second-place finish with a height of 10'-6" (3.20m) while Callie Diffie placed third with a height of 10'-6" (3.20m). Whitney Mounce finished fifth in a three-way tie with a height of 9'-6.25" (2.90m). Pole vaulter T.J. McClarty placed sixth with a mark of 14'-7.5" (4.46m).
Adam Uszynski and Chad Andrews competed in the high jump with marks of 5'-9.75 (1.77) abd 5'-7.75" (1.72m), respectively while on the women's team
Megan Schuessler placed third in the women's shot put with a throw of 44'-3.25" (13.49m). In the men's shot put, Brad Kring placed fourth with a throw of 54'-11.5" (16.75m), while Daniel Fuller finished eighth with a throw of 48'-11.5" (14.92m).
In the 200m, J. Shon Colquitt ran a time of 23.09 to finish in eighth followed closely by Jody Putman who turned in a time of 23.47. Adam Uszynski rounded out the competitors with a time of 25.22, finishing in 25th.
Chad Andrews advanced to the finals in the 55m hurdles, with a prelim time of 8.22 finishing in 10th with a 8.21 final time. In the 55m dash, Tech had two competitors finish in the top five. Ronita Johnson finished in fourth with a time of 7.24 while LaToya Fry finished in fifth with a time of 7.36.
Tech had three runners place in the men's mile run. Adam Lawless had a sixth-place finish with a time of 4:36.30, while Robert Kalesky finished 10th with a time of 4:49.12, and Nicolai Luksza in 11th place with a time of 4:56.11.
In the women's mile run, Abby Schubert finished fifth overall with a time of 5:30.29. In the women's 400-meter dash, Tenaya Mumphrey finished in fourth place with a time of 1:01.99.
Tech placed three runners in the men's 400-meter dash, including two in the top ten finishers. Rhett Rimmer finished in eighth place with a time of 49.98, while Orin Darrington finished in ninth place with a time of 50.26. Taylor Wilson finished 23rd with a time of 55.41.
In the women's 800-meter run, Sara Srnensky finished in eighth place with a time of 2:34.83. In the men's 800-meter run, Steven Morales finished fourth overall with a time of 1:59.02.
In the women's 3000-meter run, Erin Lyman finished with a time of 12:18.84 and placed fourth overall in the race.
In one of the last events of the day, Tech ran three teams in the distance medley relay with Tech's A team placing second overall with a time of 12:10:08, finishing ahead of the C team which finished fourth at 12:25:24 and Tech B in fifth at 12:30:44.
Texas Tech track will be back in action tomorrow at the Athletic Training Center when they host five teams in a early season meet.
