
2004 Michael Johnson Classic Next Stop For Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas - The bulk of the Texas Tech track and field team will head to Waco, Texas, this weekend to compete in the 2004 Michael Johnson Classic. The meet will be held at the Hart Patterson Track & Field Complex and will host a field including Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Baylor.
For the second time this season both the men's and women's track and field teams took first at the ASU David Noble Relays in San Angelo, Texas this past weekend. The women took first with 177.50 points while the men's team turned in 141 points for a first-place finish.
Competing in cold elements, the team turned in 11 first-place finishes with nine regional qualifying marks. Jason Young competed at the Spira Invitational in El Paso, Texas contributing his own qualifying mark in the discus with a first-place finish. This brings the team to 50 regional qualifying marks turned in this season.
Four of the Red Raiders will compete at the Mt. Sac College Relays in Walnut, Calif. Tracie Akerhielm, Brionne Yosten, Benson Cheserek and Jonathan Johnson will make the trip to Alamo City. The pole vault and hammer will be held on Friday with the rest of the field events scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Running prelims are scheduled for 12 p.m. and the finals will begin at 6 p.m. with all times on a rolling schedule.
