
Clardy Sets New School Record In Hammer

NORMAN, Okla. - The Texas Tech track and field teams have begun the hunt for a Big 12 title as the men are in fourth and the women in eighth with five events scored on the first day of the Big 12 Championships in Norman, Okla. The men's team turned in six points while the women have tallied five.
Junior Olivia Clardy put up the first points of the day with a seventh-place finish in the hammer. Her throw of 177'-2" (54.00m) is not only her personal best but also the new school record. Senior Jason Young's throw of 187'-5" (57.10), on his fifth attempt secured him a third-place finish.
Tracie Akerhielm turned in her second-consecutive All-Conference honor in the 10,000m run with a sixth-place finish. Akerhielm finished in a time of 36:36.02.
Senior Aki Heikkinen had an outstanding start to his decathlon as he heads into day two with 3,877 points. Heikkinen recorded marks of 11.33 in the 100m, 23'-7.5" (7.20m) in the long jump, 45'-11.75" (14.01m) in the shot put and 6'-3.5" (1.92m) in the high jump and 51.06 in the 400m.
