
Red Raiders Wrap Up Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - Things heated up on the final day of the 77th Clyde Littlefield Relay as the Red Raiders competed in front of a sell-out crowd of 22,000 fans in Austin, Texas. The team left the Relays with 15 regional qualifying marks, one first-place finish and three new school records.
In men's high jump section A, junior Chad Pharis tied for eighth with a leap of 7'-0.50" (2.15m) for his first regional qualifying mark of the season. The field was competitive with the top 12 athletes qualifying for regionals.
Junior Bobby Most was the last Red Raider standing in the men's pole vault competition as he finished at 17'- 8.50" (5.40m) for a fourth-place finish. Most fell short of last seasons 18'-0.5"-Texas Relays mark and would not defend his title. Sophomore Sage Thames finished 13th with a regional qualifying mark of 16'-10.75" (5.15m).
Tech's women's distance medley relay team finished ninth with a time of 11:44.86, the fourth-best time in school history. Junior Stefanie Calhoun started out for the Red Raiders, running the 1200 leg before handing off to senior Ashley Stevens who took over for the 400m leg. Freshman Ruth Camacho ran the 800m leg for the team before giving way to senior Tracie Akerhielm who ran the 1600m leg of the race.
Sophomore Brionne Yosten competed in the 1500m, section A, with a regional qualifying time of 4:27.87 finished in sixth. This is Yosten's first qualifying time of the season.
The women's 4x400 relay team improved on their prelim time of 3:34.71 to a set a school-record time of 3:34.14 for a sixth-place finish. Sophomore Tori Polk led off for the Red Raiders and would give way for junior Shereefa Lloyd. Senior Rachelle Evans ran the third leg before handing off to junior Licretia Sibley who took over as the anchor leg. Texas won the event with a collegiate record time of 3:23.75.
The men's 4x400 team improved by nearly three seconds with a final time of 3:05.44 and a second-place finish. The team turned in a prelim time of 3:08.33. Junior Matt Stewart ran the lead leg with a split time before handing off to junior Jonathan Johnson. Freshman Bryan Scott was the third leg with junior Albert Booker serving as anchor. Booker pulled the team in contention of winning but UCLA took home first with a time of 3:04.25.
