Rosenbladt Qualifies For Nationals In The Pole Vault

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field teams have turned in four all-region performances with sophomore Dana Rosenbladt automatically qualifying for Nationals in the pole vault in the first day of competition at the Midwest Regional Championships in College Station, Texas. The teams qualified six individuals in six events for finals with the women's team currently in 10th with five points and the men in 15th with 2.25 points.
Junior Chad Pharis turned in the first points on the men's side with a jump of 7'-1.0" (2.16m) tying for eighth place. This was also his best jump of the season.
Junior Licretia Sibley ran a time of 52.56 in the 400M to win her heat and advance to finals. Her time was second behind Texas' Sanya Richards who is ranked first in the region.
Sophomore Dana Rosenbladt entered today as the 12th best vaulter in the region and wrapped up competition with a personal record. Rosenbladt jumped 13'-1.75" (4.01m) for a fourth-place finish, clearing 12'-10" and 13'-1.75" with no misses.
Junior Tyree Gailes finished fourth overall and third in his heat of the 100m with a time of 10.27 to advance to tomorrow's finals. Gailes is currently ranked sixth in the region.
Junior Jonathan Johnson clocked a time of 1:49.82 in the 800m to finish second behind Nebraska's Dmitrijs Milkevics who ran a time of 1:48.89. Johnson will compete in the finals tomorrow to attempt his repeat as the Midwest Champion.
Of the three athletes competing in the men's 400m hurdles, freshman Bryan Scott was the only one to advance to finals. The 2004 Big 12 Champion finished fourth overall and first in his heat with a time of 51.74.
Freshman Brad Kring earned his first all-region honor in the shot put with a throw of 58'-8.75" (17.90m) for an eighth-place finish. His mark is the second best in school history, off the school record by only two inches.
Junior Shereefa Lloyd finished first in her heat with a time of 23.35 in the 200m dash. Lloyd will advance to tomorrow's finals with the third best time overall in the prelims.
Juniors Albert Booker and Gailes finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 200m dash. Booker clocked a time of 20.80 with Gailes closely behind in a time of 20.81.
Senior Tracie Akerhielm made her final appearance as a Red Raider, putting in one point for the team with an eighth-place finish. Akerhielm ran an 18:01.76 in the 5,000M.
The meet will conclude tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m. with the field events with running finals beginning at 6 p.m. The top five finishers in individual events and top three in relays will advance to Nationals.
