
Field Announced For 2004 Track & Field Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - The NCAA announced the field for the 2004 Track and Field Championships to be held June 9-12 in Austin, Texas. The No. 18 men's team qualified 10 athletes in eight events while the women's team will take six athletes in four events.
MEN NATIONAL QUALIFIERS
Junior Tyree Gailes will compete in the 100m dash. Gailes is coming off a fourth-place finish at Regionals with a time of 10.28. His best time of the season was in the prelims at Regionals, a 10.27.
Junior Albert Booker will compete in the 200m dash and as a member of the 4x400 team. Booker's time of 20.69 was a career-best time, earning him a fourth-place finish at Regionals.
Junior Jonathan Johnson repeated as Midwest Champion in the 800m with a time of 1:49.82. Johnson is currently ranked No. 1 in the Nation with a time of 1:46.32 set at the Mt. Sac Relays. Johnson will also compete as a member of the 4x400 team.
Freshman Bryan Scott qualified in the 400m hurdles with a fourth-place finish at Regionals. This 2004 Big 12 Champion had a season-best time of 50.73 at the Conference Championships. Scott is also a member of the National qualifying 4x400 team.
Tech placed three competitors in the men's pole vault competition, the most from one school in the competition. Redshirt freshman Sage Thames and sophomore Bobby Most both cleared 17'-11" at Regionals to finish second and third, respectively. Thame's jump was a personal best and Most's best jump of the season. Junior Jared Thornhill's jump of 17'-10.50" at the UTEP Invitational earned him an at-large bid.
Senior Jason Young will compete in the discus after finishing fifth at Regionals with a throw of 200'-8". Young set a new school record with a mark of 206'-5" at the ACU Open, earning him a top five mark in the Nation.
Senior Aki Heikkinen was crowned Big 12 Champion with 7,559 points in the decathlon. Heikkinen is Tech's only multi Big 12 Champion and the holder of the school record.
Junior Matt Stewart will compete as a member of the 4x400 relay team. The team set a season-best time of 3:05.44 at the Texas Relays and finished third at Regionals with a time of 3:06.83.
WOMEN NATIONAL QUALIFERS
Junior Shereefa Lloyd will compete in both the 200m dash and as a member of the 4x400 team. Lloyd had a season best time of 23.10 at the Big 12 Championships and finished fifth at Regionals with a time of 23.13.
Junior Licretia Sibley earned an at-large bid in the 400m dash after setting a school record time of 52.22 at the UTEP Invitational. Sibley clocked a time of 52.70 at Regionals for a sixth-place finish. Sibley will also compete as a member of the 4x400 team.
Tech will see two competitors in the women's pole vault, one an automatic qualifier and the other earning an at-large big. Freshman Kelley Schulz set a school record mark of 13'-3.50" at the ACU Open, earning her an at-large bid. Sophomore Dana Rosenbladt finished third at Regionals with a personal best vault of 13'-1.75".
Senior Rachelle Evans and sophomore Tori Polk will compete as members of the 4x400 relay team. The team set a school record at the Texas Relays with a time of 3:34.14. It finished third at Regionals with a time of 3:34.81.
