
Track & Field Head To 2004 NCAA Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - After a successful season including the best finishes in school history at the Conference Championships, the Texas Tech track and field teams will wrap up their seasons with the biggest competition in track and field, the 2004 NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, June 9-12. The No. 17 men's team will take 10 athletes in eight events while the women's team will take six athletes in four events.
The women's 4x400 team will compete with members Shereefa Lloyd and Licretia Sibley competing in individual events, 200M and 400M, respectively. Freshman Kelley Schulz and sophomore Dana Rosenbladt will compete in the pole vault. Schulz and Rosenbladt combine to hold the top five marks in school history with Schulz holding the school record height of 13'-3.50".
The men's team tied for 17th last season, the team's best finish in school history, with many of those key members returning this season. Senior Jason Young will make his final appearance as a Red Raider after four successful years including turning in a school record in the discus and All-American status. Young finished fourth at last year's Championship with a throw of 194'-5". Junior Jonathan Johnson looks to improve on last year's runner-up finish and earn a National Championship title. Johnson currently holds the best time in the Nation with a time of 1:46.32. Tech placed three pole vaulters in competition, the most of any school in that event. Sophomore Bobby Most, redshirt freshman Sage Thames and junior Jared Thornhill will all represent Tech with Thames and Thornhill tying for eighth on the National performance list. The men's 4x400 team finished sixth last season with a time of 3:04.76 and will be a contender this season.
