
Jonathan Johnson Set To Compete in Athens

LUBBOCK, Texas - Red Raider track and field athlete Jonathan Johnson will be competing in the first round of the 800-meter Wed., Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. The event will be under the lights, as Athens is eight hours ahead. Johnson, the 2004 Big 12 and NCAA Champion in the event, won the U.S. Olympic trials in the event with a personal best time of 1:44.77. At the Olympic Trials, Johnson posted a victory over NCAA rivals and fellow Olympians Derrick Peterson and Khadevis Robinson. There will be 10 preliminary heats of the 800-meter on Wednesday. The top two finishers of each heat, in addition to the four next best times will qualify for the semifinal heats on Thursday night. Results from the event can be found on www.texastech.com and www.nbcolympics.com. The preliminary heats will be shown on NBC at 11:30 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 25.
