Jonathan Johnson Qualifies for Semifinals in Athens

LUBBOCK, Texas - Red Raider track and field athlete Jonathan Johnson qualified for the semifinal round of the 800-meter Wed., Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. The Tech sprinter finished second in heat three, automatically qualifying him. A replay of Johnson's run will be broadcast at 9 p.m. this evening. Johnson, running in the outside lane, finished second in the third heat with a time of 1:45.31. His 400-meter split time was 50.93 seconds and his time was .62 behind gold medal favorite Wilson Kipketer. Johnson, the NCAA and Big 12 Champion in the event, will compete tomorrow in the semifinals rounds beginning at 1 p.m. Results from the event can be found on www.texastech.com and www.nbcolympics.com.
