Jonathan Johnson Fails to Qualify for the Finals

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech track and field athlete Jonathan Johnson failed to qualify for the final round of the 800-meter at the 2004 Olympic games in Athens. Johnson, running in lane six, finished eighth in the third heat with a time of 1:50.10. Johnson, the NCAA and Big 12 Champion in the event, won the 800-meter at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento, Calif. this past July with a personal best time of 1:44.77. Johnson, who ran the fastest time in the U.S. this year in the 800-meter, will continue his career as he enters Texas Tech this fall for his senior campaign. Johnson, a six time All-American, was ranked No. 1 in the nation in the 800-meter this year.
