Red Raider Track and Field Opens 2005 Season in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Track and Field will begin the 2005 season this weekend in Lubbock as they participate in the Wes Kittley All-Comers event on Friday and the Wes Kittley 6 Way on Saturday.
All indoor home meets will be held at the Athletic Training Center. Admission for the event will be $5 for adults and $3 for children. Texas Tech students are admitted with their Texas Tech ID.
The Wes Kittley All-Comers event will begin with the field events starting at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The running events will begin at 5 p.m.
Competing at Friday's meet, along with the Red Raiders, will be ACU, Howard Payne University, McMurry University, Sterling College, New Mexico Junior College, Texas A&M Kingsville, Paul Quinn College, and Sam Houston State.
The Wes Kittley 6-Way event will begin with the field events starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The running events will follow at 12 p.m.
Joining Texas Tech on Saturday will be Big 12 rival Baylor, Florida, UTEP, TCU, and UTSA. The Florida men's squad finished second at Nationals during the 2004 outdoor season. Baylor boasts two national championships in the 400M and the 4x400M from the 2004 outdoor season. Running for Baylor in the 4x400M relay will be 2004 Olympian Darold Williamson.
Going into this weekend, the Texas Tech men's squad is ranked 13th on the trackwire 25. Individually, Tyree Gailes is ranked ninth in the 60M, Jonathan Johnson is ranked first in the 800M and Sage Thames and Bobby Most are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault.
For the women, Shereefa Lloyd is ranked 11th in the 200M, the 4x400M is ranked fifth, and Kelley Schulz is ranked ninth in the pole vault.
