Women's Tennis Finishes Day One at ITA Regionals

Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team completed day one of competition at the ITA Southwest Regional Tournament, in College Station, Texas, today.
In the opening round of singles play, Janet Durham cruised past Melissa Kavangh Patel of Rice, 6-2, 6-1. Lakann Wagley defeated Cameron Aberauboeru of Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, 6-0, 6-3. Erin Hunter topped Sammie Morton of North Texas, 6-0, 6-3. Anne Sophie Fankam fell to Brooke Rambally of SMU, 6-0, 6-4. Katja Kovacic topped Giovanna Arrondo of UL-Monroe, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6.
In the second round of singles, Durham fell to Karen Scida of UTSA, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2. Wagley was topped by Halle Rambally of SMU, 6-0, 6-2. Hunter was defeated by Anastasia Dubova of LSU, 6-4, 6-3. Kovacic cruised past Marine Neveu of UL-Lafayette, 6-2, 6-2. In the first round of consolation singles, Fankam topped Erica Moraleda of Texas Southern, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, Durham and Fankam fell to DeSesa and Rogers of Rice, 8-4. Hunter and Kovacic edged Seamen and Tucker of LSU, 8-5. Cigdem Duru and Samantha van der Drift cruised passed Burton and Schmidt of Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, 8-0. No 25 Tara Browning and Wagley topped Espinal and Leon of UL- Monroe, 8-5.
